Beatrix Ye

HERITAGE CONSULTANT

Beatrix is a Heritage Consultant with the Archaeology team at Artefact.

She has been working in Australian archaeology, both in reporting and field work, since 2024 and through this had the opportunity to work widely on historical and Aboriginal archaeology. Beatrix finds working locally particularly impactful for grasping the depth and variety of experiences which have walked where I walk every day.  

Beatrix was awarded the Artefact Future Award in 2025, recognised by her colleagues for being an up and coming practitioner who is well on her way to a bright future.

  • Beatrix has been fortunate enough to volunteer on archaeological excavations in Europe and Western Asia. More recently I’ve worked as an archaeological illustrator for research projects in the United Arab Emirates at Shimal and Saruq al-Hadid, preparing object illustrations for publication.

“Something that I find fascinating is how the character of objects changes when people ascribe meaning to them. Pepito may look like a typical 2020s mass-produced silicone duck lamp (and he is), but I've also taken him with me all the way from Jordan to Cyprus. I'd wager some part of an everyday object's identity changes when you stop and take a moment to consider how it may have acquired that scratch half-a-world away.”
