Bonnie Clark

SENIOR HERITAGE CONSULTANT

Bonnie has been working as an archaeologist on Aboriginal and Historic projects in NSW since 2016, although her international field experience dates back over 15 years.

She specialises in the excavation of burials and analysis of human skeletal remains and has provided input towards locating unmarked graves in historic cemeteries, identification of human and non-human bones, documentation of Aboriginal Ancestral remains, and recovery of Australian casualties from both World Wars.

“My artefact is a cup made from a dried gourd, decorated with a pin-prick design and inscribed with 'Bonnie, Archaeologist in Ethiopia'.

It was made and gifted to me by local people from the village of Mai Adrasha in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, where I had the opportunity to be an instructor for an international, but community-centred, archaeological field school in 2019.

The recent civil war in Tigray has since contributed to the destruction of the site and displacement of many people in the region, so this cup reminds me of both the fragility and resilience of cultural heritage and its inheritors.”
