CAROLYN

I am a Principal at Artefact Heritage, specialising in heritage interpretation. I have over 25 years’ experience developing interpretive plans, media and interpretive content across the heritage, environmental, scientific, archaeology and Indigenous sectors. I have prepared numerous Heritage Interpretation Strategies and Heritage Interpretation Plans from targeted urban development to large-scale infrastructure projects, produced detailed interpretive content and provided interpretive advice on a wide range of projects. I have extensive experience in consultation processes with a range of community and agency stakeholders, and frequently collaborate with design teams, architects and urban planners to deliver engaging and professionally sound interpretive solutions.

MY ARTEFACT

In my hands I am holding a fish-shaped cosmetic palette from predynastic Egypt, around 3,000 BC (well, it’s a beautiful replica I got at the British Museum after a trip to Egypt).

Carved from mudstone into flat animal shapes, these palettes were used to grind and prepare pigmented materials into cosmetics.

I love the simple lines of this artefact, and the way it fits within my hand.

It also connects me to my past travels, and reminds me of how lucky I have been to work on Egyptian and other archaeological exhibitions in my career.
