JACK BOGDANEK

ABORIGINAL CULTURAL HERITAGE OFFICER

Jack is a proud Wankamadla and Pitta – Pitta man. In his work as an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Officer with Artefact’s Country & Culture Team, Jack oscillates between —honouring the voices of Elders, Traditional Owners, and community, while encouraging everyone to learn about Aboriginal culture.

He supports the creation of Connecting with Country Reports and Cultural Values Assessments, helping weave cultural knowledge into the future in a way that remains true to its origins.

ABOUT

JACK

"Through consultation and connection, I help bring forward the stories held in Country, working alongside Local Aboriginal Land Councils and stakeholders to ensure they are respected, protected, and carried forward.
My role takes me onto Country and into research, where each place, each artefact, and each story holds meaning."

MY ARTEFACT

My phone – because it is a tangible reminder to me that humans have always been crafting tools. Our “caveman” ancestors walked with a stick; now I walk with my phone.

When I was a child, my grandparents strongly encouraged me to get a phone. The stories they told—for instance, how they would have to wait at home all day if they were expecting a call—highlighted how different life once was.

That is why I love archaeology and heritage so much. Society was built on memory; our forefathers made the first stitch. By examining physical materials, we are not only able to evolve, but also to make a stronger ‘stitch’ in our society for future generations.
