Artefact was established in 2010 by Dr Sandra Wallace, who remains the company’s Managing Director.

The Artefact team of heritage advisors provides archaeological, cultural heritage management and environmental assessment services across all New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Working for a wide range of clients, we deliver archaeological services for both Aboriginal and historical (non-Aboriginal) sites. As heritage advisors we offer planning, built heritage, history and interpretation solutions for projects large and small. EXCAVATION
Diona Ward Joint Venture (DWJV) was appointed by Transport for NSW to deliver the Parramatta Light Rail enabling works. DWJV’s Construction Environmental Management Plan for this Critical State Significant Infrastructure project entailed sensitive handling of four heritage-listed sites in the Parramatta CBD. DWJV commissioned Artefact as heritage consultants to prepare a Heritage Management Plan, and to undertake archaeological test excavation and salvage excavation within the proposed impact footprints...
CULTURAL HERITAGE ASSESSMENTS
Parramatta Park boasts a rich array of natural, Aboriginal and historical heritage values. To evaluate likely impacts, constraints and opportunities, Western Sydney Parklands Trust commissioned Artefact as heritage advisors to complete a suite of heritage assessments. This work included a detailed heritage survey, plus consultation with Aboriginal stakeholders to establish local cultural values and guide archaeological excavations. HERITAGE ADVISORS
Sydney Metro is a critical step in the delivery of Future Transport Strategy 2056, which will provide fast, reliable and frequent rail service. Artefact's heritage advisors have worked on all portions of the currently planned network including Northwest, Chatswood to Sydenham, Central Station Main Works, Southwest, Greater West and Metro West. As heritage consultants Artefact provided crucial heritage advice to Sydney Metro and its contractors on all stages of the development.
