OUR ACCOMPLISHED TEAM has been crucial to the smooth running of literally hundreds of projects, for a diverse range of clients, across many sectors. These include rural and urban development, mining, transport, utilities and healthcare, as well as local and state government.
Artefact assisted the client with a range of services including Aboriginal archaeological salvage excavation, non-Aboriginal archaeological test excavation, archival recording and preparation of heritage management plans. A tight timeframe and complex fieldwork logistics were challenges overcome by the heritage team.
Artefact provided Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage assessments for input into the Environmental Impact Statement for the Chatswood to Sydenham component of the project. Heritage input into the Environmental Impact Statement required an innovative approach to assessment as a result of the complex nature of the project. The Artefact team worked closely with the client and project approvals team to provide high quality, strategic advice on heritage management and mitigation.
Artefact assisted the client in obtaining necessary heritage permits and conducted comprehensive archaeological excavations at the site. The remains of an early 1800s industrial site was uncovered including sections of a mill and dye house. Artefact successfully uncovered and recorded these remains and assisted the client in providing heritage interpretation at the site enabling the public to engage with its history.
As part of the Environmental Impact Statement for the project, Artefact prepared both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage assessments. This included archaeological test excavation to refine areas requiring salvage excavation within this large development site.
Artefact were engaged by the Trust for the final stage of Paddocks Precinct amenities upgrading program. We provided heritage advice during the design finalisation process and identified opportunities to minimise impacts. Artefact managed consultation with the Aboriginal community and prepared the Aboriginal heritage assessment. Our team also prepared the historical archaeological assessment and research design, and assisted the Trust in submitting their approval applications to the Office of Environment & Heritage and the Heritage Council of NSW.
Artefact have provided high level and timely advice to support this critical project. Artefacts expert team have conducted archaeological monitoring, archaeological excavation, Aboriginal consultation and prepared a number of technical reports for the project.
