Location: Concord West on Wangal Country
Artefact developed a Heritage Impact Report to help guide the delivery of essential healthcare infrastructure while respecting a heritage-listed site's significant military and medical history.
This heritage-listed site formerly served as a military hospital during World War II. Artefact provided heritage advice for the development of a new forensic mental health facility within the heritage-listed Concord Repatriation General Hospital campus.

Heritage solution
As the project involves the addition of a contemporary building to the hospital site and components of demolition, it was crucial to gain a comprehensive understanding of this extensive site and its various components.
The resultant report provided a concise history of the hospital and the broader Concord context, outlined the heritage significance of the hospital and development area, and considered the possible impact of the new development on the heritage values of the place.
Artefact’s final and comprehensive report advised that the proposed new health facility will have potential negligible physical and visual impact to the heritage values of the Concord Hospital precinct.
The new facility will be named ‘Burudyara’ - a local Aboriginal dialect word for butterfly.
The Artefact team was proud to have helped support the development pathway for this new forensic mental health unit in Sydney.
