Artefact Takes Position on The Voice

In the lead-up to the referendum later this year on whether we should change the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing a body called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Artefact's Managing Director Dr Sandra Wallace has made a statement about our company position.

OUR
POSITION

"Artefact recognises that studying the past and telling its stories is foundational to our sense of belonging and to our shared future. We believe that truth-telling and the voices of Australia's First Peoples are critical. Artefact recognises the profound importance of the referendum concerning an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. We acknowledge past injustices and support the Voice to Parliament and encourage others to do so as well."

BACKGROUND

In 2017, 250 delegates from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the country gathered and wrote the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which called for a Voice for First Nations people to be added to the Constitution.

Then in 2022, the Australian Government agreed to have a referendum to let Australians decide whether to establish the Voice in the Constitution.

The Voice referendum will be held in late 2023.

Artefact encourages you to be ready for the conversation and stay up to date.
