BEATRIX

Hello! I am Graduate Heritage Consultant working as part of Artefact's Aboriginal Archaeology team. I assist the team in conducting background research, report writing, and going on site for survey and excavation.

ABOUT

BEATRIX

My family never nudged any particular interests towards me as a kid, so my love of history was something I just acquired on my own, kept, and ran with all the way from primary school into university. I ended up studying both history and archaeology at the University of Sydney, graduating with honours.

I've since been a volunteer leader on the architecture team on the Zagora Digital Horizons Project describing built features using archival photography, and excavated in both Europe and Western Asia.

I also have many years of experience in both traditional and digital illustration which I get to apply towards technical illustration for archaeology.

MY ARTEFACT

Something that I find fascinating is how the character of objects changes when people ascribe meaning to them. Pepito may look like a typical 2020s mass-produced silicone duck lamp (and he is), but I've also taken him with me all the way from Jordan to Cyprus. I'd wager some part of an everyday object's identity changes when you stop and take a moment to consider how it may have acquired that scratch half-a-world away.
