Building Bradfield

The NSW State Government is helping to build Sydney’s third city - Bradfield City Centre - on the doorstep of the new Western Sydney International Airport.

As part of this, a number of properties in the area are being developed to capitalise on the opportunity.

Artefact was engaged by PSP Consult to assess plans for the development of Mount Pleasant homestead, 1-3 Shannon Road, Bradfield, while retaining the locally heritage-listed dwelling already on site and maintaining its integrity and significance.

Artefact sent heritage consultants on site to assess the homestead, identifying intrinsic features of the structure itself and surrounding landscape in order to provide heritage guidance in the form of a Constraints Analysis of the planned warehouse construction works while maintaining the homestead's physical and visual integrity.

OUR
SOLUTION

To establish an understanding of the context and layout of the site, Artefact’s heritage consultants first reviewed the project designs for the new warehouse alongside heritage maps of the homestead.

Following this, a site visit was conducted to visually assess the architectural features of the homestead, evaluate the landscape, and determine potential impacts from a nearby factory on the heritage significance of the homestead.

This evaluation was then formatted into a detailed list of positive and negative outcomes associated with the site development to guide any potential adaptive reuse of the homestead.

SUCCESS

The Constraints Analysis was delivered within the client’s timeframe so they could continue with their ongoing design plans.

Our expertise assisted in determining design features and geographical positioning of the new warehouse, preserving as much of the homestead’s heritage integrity as possible while also facilitating the construction process.

“This area will be transformed into a thriving city centre, home to advanced manufacturing, research, science and education and we want Bradfield to be as iconic as the existing major city centres of Sydney and Parramatta. What are paddocks now will be a thriving, bustling city centre offering the best job opportunities anywhere in Australia.”
