SAMANTHA

I am the Team Leader of Artefact’s Country and Culture team. Our team includes Aboriginal cultural heritage officers and heritage specialists. As a group we have extensive experience in anthropology, archaeology and the museum and heritage interpretation sectors.

We engage with Local Aboriginal Land Councils, traditional knowledge holders and other community representatives to understand the cultural values of an area to inform cultural values assessments and to develop Connecting with Country reports based on the NSW Government Architects framework.

ABOUT

SAMANTHA

I have 20 years’ experience in Australian heritage management and regulation, specialising in Australian Aboriginal heritage.

For my PhD research I was lucky enough to spend time in the Australian Western Desert with Traditional Owners on the Canning Stock Route recording rock art and Jukurrpa, and with Martu contemporary acrylic artists at Martumili Artists.

As a heritage consultant I am passionate about improving heritage outcomes through innovative process and strategy.

MY ARTEFACT

My dog Claypan is a joyous artefact of my time interviewing artists in the Western Desert.  We’ve had some great adventures over the years. She doesn’t travel as far anymore but she enjoys a trip to the office to brighten everyone’s day.
